Upstream Color

There are two reasons to watch this movie:

1. Films are just not made with this level of`clarity of vision anymore, largely because doing so involves the creator to be so thoroughly involved with every aspect of the film that most directors just can't do it.
2. It is really well done: It is well written. The music is evocative, distinct, even eerily part of the plot. Visually the film balances between the self-indulgently artistic and the mundane. The editing, impeccable. The acting, honest. 

I first saw this film at midnight in Vienna. It took me an hour of turning it over in my mind before I could fall asleep that night. I spent the next day thinking, asking, pushing what I had understood. Afterwards whenever I mentioned it as a film for people to watch they laughed at me and threw twinkies at me on my bike like that recurring nightmare I had in college.
